What does one say under such circumstances? I remember that I had planned to meet him at Liverpool station at 12.30 PM on a typical wet day in London in 2006. He was living in London and I had gone there on work. The huge hug he gave me on seeing me, our immediate walk to the pub to down a couple of large beers (forget it was still mid-day in London, our logic was that it was sun down somewhere in the world!), the ease with which we picked up threads as if we have been meeting every evening (we were actually meeting each other after a gap of over 12 years) indicated to me what a friendship with a gregarious person could do to you. Like Wodehouse would say it was one of the most poignant moments in my life. He was full of life; ready to lead it to the full as if there is no tomorrow. His ability to spread cheer, buck up ones around him and ability to bring happiness wherever he went was amazing. God likes to have people whom He likes to be with Him early, I suppose. I have no doubt that he would charm the place he will be and people around him would love him. But then, I will miss him for the rest of my life. We had a great time once. Now I have to do with memories. RIP Naren. Thanks for the glorious and riotous times we had in AFF. Rest in peace, my friend.
