Irrepressible Pat

I have known Pat for the last 12 years or more. I was first put in touch by a neighbour when we were exploring ways of outsourcing accounting work to India. Pat was looking for ways of taking on UK outsourcing to India. This led to our UK firm of Chartered Accountants outsourcing its own work to a variety of Pat’s contact firms, starting with Ferguson in Bangalore, Srinivassen in Chennai and finally Escribe in Chennai. We then tried our first joint venture with Escribe forming Accounting Partners in 2005 to sell Indian outsourcing to UK based accountants. We hadn’t reckoned on the very conservative and generally awkward nature of our target customers however and this was not a success. In 2011 with the demise of a UK pub accounting firm Pat approached us with the suggestion of another join venture to pick up the bits and take on the licensed trade market; hence Elta which continues to this day. Pat was always full of enthusiasm for everything he was involved in from cricket to family to business. This was infectious and had a very positive effect on all he came into contact with. We have a lot to thank him for. He arranged an internship for our daughter, Josephine with NDTV in Delhi…she subsequently became a film l editor; and he arranged an administration job with Elta for our son Patrick who has since moved on to town planning. He was instrumental in pushing us and helping with the planning for a month in India last year. His attitude to formality was refreshing. He suggested I wore flip flops, shorts and a loud shirt to Anish’s wedding reception and I suspect we would get the same advice for his funeral. There is a lot we can learn from him. He will be sadly missed. Duncan Boxwell
